High-tech Fair to Open in May
The Third Session of China (Beijing) International High-Tech Industries Week 2000, May 8-12, is expected to provide many opportunities for those engaged in high-tech activities in China.
Beijing Vice-Mayor Zhang Mao told a preparatory meeting for the State-level high-tech industry week that it will create huge opportunities for technological exchanges between business people, experts, scientists, educators and others involved in a wide range of high tech activities.
With the State Council's approval, the China High-Tech Industries Week will be held annually in Beijing.
This year's event will open on May 8, co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, the Ministry of Education, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Beijing municipal government.
More than 30 governmental and professional delegations are expected to attend.
Zhang said that during the high-tech week a range programmes will take place in Beijing.
A round of trade talks concerning international technological exchanges, overseas investment, the introduction of foreign capital, co-operation with medium and small-sized enterprises of the European Union, are scheduled.
At least 20 seminars concerning high-tech industries' marketable products from technological achievements, personnel exchanges through the Internet, protection of intellectual property rights and trading in property rights will be held.
Experts, scholars and entrepreneurs, including ministers of various national departments, academicians of the China Society Academy and chief executive officers of famous transnational enterprises, are expected to attend and participate in seven forums during the week.
They are expected to talk about the development of high-tech parks, high-tech insurance, and the exploitation and development of China's western regions.
