Beijing No. 5 Subway Line Drafts Fund Plan

A fund raising plan for the Beijing's 5th subway line has been drawn up and the line will be open within five years.

The line will cost a total of US$1.4 billion, one-third of which, or US$481 million, has been invested by the joint venture.

The other US$963 million will be raised via guaranteed loans from Chinese and Canadian banks. Co-established by the Beijing Capital Group, the Beijing Subway Corporation, the Beijing State-owned Assets Management Company and Canadian SNC-LAVALIN, the joint venture has a registration capital of US$481 million.

Green Belt to Decorate Capital Airport Expressway

Upon the completion of the renovation of Beijing Capital Airport Expressway this month, a green thoroughfare along the 16.3-km long expressway will appear as the first sight when visitors come to Beijing.

The renovation for this time will increase the acreage to 100 hectares of 60,000 green trees and evergreen arbor trees taking up one sixth of the trees planted. The new green belt is to be built 100 meters in width, with defoliation arbor trees, evergreen trees, bush and small arbor trees to dominate the expressway.

Visitors on arrival will be first impressed at sight of the green Airport Expressway leading to the downtown area.

Yunnan Seeking Site Listing in The World Heritage Convention

Southwest China's Yunnan Province is seeking to have its "Three Rivers Running Abreast" area placed on the World Heritage List.

The area, which is located in northwestern Yunnan, is famous for its striking geological formations and biological diversity, which meets specified requirements listed in the articles set down in the World Heritage Convention.

The three rivers are the Jinsha River (the upper reaches of the Yangtze River), the Lancang River or upper reaches of the Mekong River, and the Nu River, which lies between the mountains extending southward from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Southwest China.

The glaciers, snowfields and limestone caverns in the region are all of outstanding universal value from the point of view of scientific research, ecological conservation and natural beauty.

Meanwhile, almost all the climatic zones of the earth appear in the area and it is a haven for many rare plant and animal species.
