Beijing Citizens Still Keen on Trips Abroad
BEIJING, July 5 -- Beijing people are keeping up their
enthusiasm for going abroad for tours or study this summer,
although the Spring Festival and Chinese Lunar New Year are
usually the busy times for such trips.
Officers of the Beijing exit-entry administration said about 1,
000 people a day are applying to go abroad recently, about the
same number as at the Spring Festival period. The number even rose
to 1,400 one day, they said.
They attributed the increase to rising incomes, simplified
procedures and abolition of the guarantee system. Moreover,
elementary and middle school students are also going abroad for
summer camp programs.
Statistics show that the administration approved only several
hundred exit applications annually before China's opening up some
20 years ago, yet now 200,000 people leave the country each year
for various purposes.
