HK Watch & Clock Fair 2001 Opens
HONG KONG, September 5 -- Hong Kong Watch and Clock Fair 2001 opened Wednesday in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chau Tak Hay, secretary for Commerce and Industry of the Hong Kong SAR Government, said the Hong Kong watch and clock fair showcases Hong Kong's strengths in timepiece design and production, and promotes its position as a premier trading hub for watches and clocks in the region.
For the first half of 2001, Hong Kong's total exports of
watches and clocks amounted to 19.8 billion Hong Kong dollars (2.54 billion U.S. dollars). Exports in 2001 are expected moderate against the background of a slowing world economy.
However, Chau said he has full confidence that the industry will rise to this challenge with vigor and resilience.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the fair features over 720 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions. A wide spectrum of watches and clocks along with related components, machinery, packaging materials and industry publications are on display.
