BEIJING, September 11 -- Beijing will use some 450,000 potted plants to decorate the Chinese capital during the National Day festival period.

The move is to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the founding of New China and Beijing's success in winning the hosting right for the 2008 Olympic Games.

A flower bed to be set up in Tiananmen Square, the center for celebratory activities, will cover more than 10,000 sq m and be occupied by 300,000 potted plants.

Meanwhile, another 150,000 potted plants will be used to decorate the Chang'an Boulevard, a transportation artery running through the square from east to west.
