BEIJING, September 11 -- An official with the Ministry of Culture said here Tuesday that the Fifth National Dancing Contest is to be held from September 30 to October 10 in Jiangsu Province.

Feng Yuan, director of the Arts Department of the ministry, said that more than 1,000 dancers involving 148 repertoires will attend the semi-final and final competition in the city of Wuxi.

All of the programs were prepared in the last three years and have gone through tough tryouts, said the director.

During the contest, a conference will be held to discuss the country's prospects in the art form.

According to Feng, the winners will have the chance to tour around the country afterwards.

Since the first contest in 1980, the Ministry of Culture has successfully developed a group of outstanding dancers and choreographic works.
