Sometimes, the nature may play hide-andseek with man. Sanzhe Pu (The Three-Step Waterfall) had not been discovered and shown up till the beginning of this century, even the famous Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) traveler Xu Xiake had failed to find it.
Among all the waterfalls in the Yandang Mountain area, the Three-Step Waterfall is said to be the most particular: It's hidden in at a dead volcano mouth and obscured by a long narrow valley called Chuyue Gu (the Early Moon Valley). Approaching to it, one steps into the volcano mouth and looks at the waterfall showering down from the top rings of the mouth as if it was pouring down from the heaven. With a drop of more than 120 kms, the Mid-Folding Waterfall looks like a pearl curtain. While the sun shines over it, it gives out rainbows. The valley behind is what the scientist called the volcano niouth. This spot is honored as the "top scenic spot" in the Yandang Mountain.
