Thousand year old temples; 700 year old pagodas. Lovely lake Erhai and Fuxian, (two of the world's most beautiful highland lakes). The Stone Forest, one of the wonders of the world; listed as a world cultural legacy by the United Nations. The Hot Springs of Anning, in the suburbs of Kunming, the awesome snow-capped mountains. The spectacular gorges and canyons, such as Tiger Leaping Gorge near Li Jiang. Tropical gardens and preserves in Xishuangbanna (the Dai prefecture). Several thousand year old walls with north and south gates in Dali's "old town". Foreigner's street in Dali. But most of all. the many nationalities villages and prefectures, with their spectacular costumes and festivals (and to Americans, VERY strange customs! Remember, however, that these customs have worked very well for thousands of years).
